"GREENEHAVEN BUTTE"
A little visited spot with beautiful rock formations, including rock pillars and lots of hoodoos, exists just north of Greenehaven on the west side of Hwy 89. Take the dirt road just north of the Lone Rock exit an drive to the butte. Walk around the butte by following the dirt road to the left side. Alternatively, you can climb the slickrock behind the butte, it is quite easy. It is also possible to climb the slickrock to the right of the butte, but you have to choose the right ridge to make it. If you find it, you will enjoy a spectacular hike along a deep chasm on your right hand side into the heart of the hoodoo area. The dirt road behind the butte continues out on the flat-topped mesa that stands as a huge ship with its bow at the highway (Stud Horse Point). From here you have a splendid view of Lake Powell, Greenehaven, and Page. It is best in the late afternoon or close to sunset. If you walk to the very end you will be able to view Lake Powell through Skylight Arch.
